In 1984 the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Parks Canada recommended that a study be initiated to select a site to commemorate the North Shore fishing industry. A preliminary study completed by Parks Canada served as the background of this study. From a list of potential sites identified in the 1985 Alan McCullough report, a short list of 27 sites to visit on Lakes Erie, Huron and Superior and Georgian Bay was assembled by the Systems Planning Section. At least one visit was made to each site during the period June to August 1985. Site surveys were supplemented by personal interviews and library and archival research and a final report (page 10) was submitted. In the end, it was decided by Parks Canada that no site rose to the required level of national historic significance and the report remained unpublished.
